A show of my work during a night hosted by Critical Sounds at Life in Shoreditch, London.

Some experimental drawing for the Bridge Patisserie Promotion I am currently working on.

Sublime.

An illustration of the essay, ’Narritive in Social Research’, written by Steph Lawler.

I am going to produce a piece of propaganda. My aim would be for it to be politically focused in a subtle way in attempt to demonstrate the sophisticated processes of propaganda that we are all subjected to daily.
For this piece I have decided to address the issue of the environment.
One of the first steps of primary education would be the alphabet and early stages of reading. I could create the alphabet as a influential message to teach the children this message.
I really like the textures of layers papers used in the image above. It could bring a nice touch and bring further fascination for the piece from the children. I also want the aesthetic of the piece to be contemporary, bright and colourful to capture the interest of the child. It must really appeal to them for their associations to be formed.
Because I will be targeting young children for this piece, it is important that I use a clear and simple font. I found Lexia, a font designed for children and people who are dyslexic.
I want to create a piece that can easily be distributed so perhaps in the form of a card or postcard. Using a post card would give the piece multifunctional qualities and would allow the children to collect the letters which they might find a quite novel idea. After further contemplation I have decided to make a small 26 page book.
The images have to stay fairly simple with the amount of time I have for this piece. I took some inspiration from environmental artist Jody Barton.

Simple but clear images are important to include. My media of choice shall be acrylic water colour and pen.
The piece is printed onto green card. Though I wanted to use textured, recycled paper, it was not possible for me to print on it effectively. I used handmade jute which is a vegetable fibre to bind the cards into a concertina book.

During my exploration of papercraft and cut-out I discovered a couple of amazing artist/designers.
One of them was Peter Callesen, and artist who explores the relationship between two and three dimentional worlds.
”A large part of my work is made from A4 sheets of paper. It is probably the most common and consumed media used for carrying information today. This is why we rarely notice the actual materiality of the A4 paper. By taking away all the information and starting from scratch using the blank white A4 paper sheet for my creations, I feel I have found a material that we are all able to relate to.” (Peter Callesen)
The intricacy of his work is stunning and thoughtful in its structure. Peter Callesen creates sculptures by cutting and folding paper, often from one sheet only. He also draws and exhibits live performances at galleries.
Callesen appears to achieve the impossible in these stunning hand cut pieces.
I also came across the designer Tord Boontje. Boontje’s work hovers between design, craft and visual art.
Tord has developed a beutiful collection of lights. I was thinking of constructing something simular for my informational illustration. A hanging hand crafted piece.
The first thing that strikes me when looking at Boontje’s work is his impressive ability to creatively combine naturally playful elements with a clean sophistication. His pieces have a way of seeming nearly organic.
Below are images of some experimentation I made using paper. I wanted to play with texture to create ideas for a piece with a strong final aesthetic.
The content of this piece will be based on cycles. A chain of knock-on events which can eventually cause change on a massive scale. This phenomenon is otherwise known as Chaos Theory or The Butterfly Effect, a chaotic effect created by something seeminly insignificant, the phenomenon wherebya small change
in one part of a complex system can have a large effect somewhere else.
Heres a nice animation I found demonstrating Chaos Theory,
So I want to make a 3-D structure that is able to demonstrate how chaos theory works. I want to make a simple and clean-cut explaination for the suject I am using to inform.
The structure I made relates to the image below that is a scientific diagram of The Chaos theory.
The piece itself I made from A4 papers using a scalpel. It documents how cycles can be disturbed by a tiny change such as a wavy line that is able to result at the bottom of the hanging piece in a chaos of paper shreads.
The cycles of it are linked by the travelling chaos as each become effected.
Below is a short video of the shadow of my finished piece.
